Terra is a dynamic community-based organization that provides a wide range of programs and services to pregnant and parenting teens in the Edmonton area. The Young Dads Outreach Program supports young dads up to the age of 24 years in developing their capacity to effectively meet the needs of their children. The position is permanent full time (37.5 hours/week) with flexible hours to best meet the needs of clients.
Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of young dads and their children, providing outreach services in-home and through community visits.
- Conduct intake assessments with new participants.
- Provide parenting education and support, guidance regarding father role, information regarding child development, assistance with relationship development, custody and access support, career and life skills planning, and community linkages or referral.
- Conduct advocacy on behalf of/with young dads.
- Facilitate linkages between Terra and community to assist young dads.
- Plan and facilitate bi-weekly activity/parenting groups for young dads (some evening work required).
- Transportation of clients and their children required.
Qualifications:
- Degree/Diploma in the Human Services Field.
- Minimum two years experience working with high risk youth.
- Understanding the needs of young dads and fathering roles.
- Experience in assessing client needs and idenfitying appropriate community resources.
- Strong advocacy skills required.
- Knowledge of child health and development, positive parenting strategies, and developmental milestones preferred.
- Computer and record-keeping skills essential.
- Vehicle that is able to transport clients and their children is required.
