Early Childcare Educators

Terra Child and Family Support Centre

(licensed and accredited childcare facility)

 

Terra is recruiting to Early Childcare Educators as a result of an expansion of the Childcare Centre to accommodate an additional 12 infant spots, to serve a total of 64 infants and 10 toddlers.

 

Working in partnership with Braemar School, the Childcare Centre is integral to the on site multi service delivery team that enables teen moms to complete their high school education.   Early Childcare Educators play a critical and active role as members of the service team, providing high quality childcare through a program that promotes cognitive, social, and physical development and positive parent/child interaction.

 

The Centre follows the school calendar year; staff enjoy time off for Christmas and Spring Break and a standard work day of 8:30 am. – 5 pm.  All staff meetings, program planning and staff development are scheduled during standard work hours.

Summary of Primary Functions:

·         Provide a quality early learning childcare experience for infants and toddlers whose teen mothers are attending Braemar School

·         Provide parenting information and support to teen mothers who access the Childcare Centre

·         Role model positive child-adult interactions

·        Work in collaboraton with other service team members to ensure the best service possible

·         Promote and support agency values and vision 

 

Qualifications:

·         Level III – Day Care Certification

·        Current First Aid Child Care Certificate

·        Police Security Clearance (CRIM)

·        Child Welfare Record Check (CWIS)

·         Current Immunization Record

Positions:

·        permanent, full time

P.A.T.H.S. Outreach Worker
Temporary Position

Terra is a dynamic community based organization that responds to the issues and challenges that young people face related to pregnancy and parenting.  P.A.T.H.S. support young moms in making healthy choices for themselves, their children, and their families and in developing their capacity to effectively meet the needs of their children.

Responsibilites:

  • Carry a caseload of young moms and their children, providing service in-home and through community visits. 
  • Provide prenatal and parenting education and support; information regarding infant care and child development. 
  • Assistance with relationship development.
  • Linking young parents to community resources for referral and/or advocacy.
  • Maintain files and complete required reporting.
  • Use HOMES database.

Qualifications:

  • Degree/diploma in the Human Services Field. 
  • Minimum two years experience working with young people. 
  • Understanding of the needs and issues related to teen pregnancy and parenting.
  • Experience in assessing client needs and identifying appropriate community resources.
  • Knowledge of child health and development, positive parenting strategies and developmental milestones preferred.
  • Comfortable using computers and databases.
  • Vehicle required.

This is a temporary full time (37.5 hours/week) position commencing immediately until December 31, 2008 with possibility of extension.  Hours of work are flexible to best meet the needs of clients.

Position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
