Roles and Responsibilities

The Board of Directors is a group of community citizens who are elected as board members. The board is responsible for policy making and setting program standards and priorities for Terra.

Current Members

Sylvia Nasseri – Chair
Sylvia has a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta. She has been instrumental in supporting the family business, Landmark Master Builders. The emotional journey of being reunited with her eldest son led Sylvia to Terra where she applies her passion for the need to support young single parents to complete their education and successfully raise their children. Sylvia joined the board in 2004.

Jo Ann Nettleton – Vice Chair
Jo Ann Nettleton is the Director, Education, Recruitment and Workforce Planning Strategies for Covenant Health.  A registered nurse with over 27 years of experience, Jo Ann has held a number of clinical and managerial leadership positions in a variety of healthcare settings in Edmonton.  She is a member of the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta and the Academy of Canadian Executive Nurses. As the mother of three teen/young adult sons, Jo Ann supports organizations that foster the strengthening of families as the essential foundation of communities. 

Cam Miles – Secretary
Cam is the Senior Manager of IT Infrastructure with Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo). She achieved a Project Manager Professional certification and a Computer Systems Technology degree after attending Terra as a teen mother in 1978. Out of a solid commitment to the value that Terra continues to provide, Cam joined the board in 2006 and hopes to contribute to making Terra a continued success.

Regan Ketchum – Client Rep
Regan is on the Terra Board of Directors as a client representative. She graduated from Braemar School in June 2008 and currently attends the University of Alberta in her first year with the Faculty of Nursing. Her high regard for education drives her ambition to obtain her masters in nursing and join Doctors Without Borders in the future. As the mother of a young daughter, Regan is an advocate for the potential of teen parents and encourages the community to perceive them in a positive way.

Ricki Golick – Board Member
Ricki Golick is the Senior Vice President and Treasurer of Canadian Western Bank.  She is originally from Montreal where she obtained a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from McGill University and a MBA from Concordia University.  She also holds a Chartered Financial Planner designation.  She sits on various Boards and committees including the Canadian Payments Association.  She is actively involved in organizations that provide support to women and children.

Barbara Hoff-Morin – Board Member
Barbara works for the Federal Public Service as a Human Resources Consultant.  Barbara began her career with the Public Service after attending Terra and completing high school as a teen mother in 1974.  With further education from the Faculty of Extension at the University of Alberta in Public Administration and Human Resources Management, she has also obtained her designation as a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) in the Province of Alberta.  Barbara served as a Board Member while attending Terra in the 70’s, once again in the 90’s and has joined the board again to support the growth of Terra as they continue with the challenges of young women and men in raising their children with confidence while furthering their own education in school and in life. Barbara values the commitment Terra has to the community and appreciates their vision and adaptability for the changing needs of youth that has been their strength over the past 36 years.

Corinne Petersen – Board Member
Corinne Petersen is a partner with the law firm Chomicki Baril Mah LLP and has been a lawyer in private practice since 1988. She has a Bachelor of Science degree with honours in psychology and a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Alberta. Corinne is a member of a number of legal associations and committees and has a strong interest in alternative dispute resolution. As a mother of three teens/young adults, she is also committed to supporting children and teens however she can. She has been a board member since May 2007.

DeAnn McNally – Board Member
DeAnn has worked in both public and private sectors and has over 10 years experience in governance and strategic planning. She is currently employed with McCoy Corporation as Manager, Corporate Affairs. DeAnn’s academic credentials include a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Law from Carleton University (1998) and a Master, Business Administration (MBA) from Royal Roads University (2009). A firm believer in community service, DeAnn is a board member with Terra – Centre for pregnant and parenting teens, and with Big Brothers Big Sisters, Edmonton area (nomination May 2010). Before becoming involved with the Bigs board, DeAnn was a big sister mentoring a young girl for 10 years. DeAnn has volunteered with numerous other community organizations including Santa’s Anonymous, The Junior League, and Christmas Bureau. DeAnn is a sports enthusiast and enjoys playing hockey, curling and running. DeAnn was born in Labrador City, NL and moved to Edmonton in 1998 where she resides with her husband.

Edwin Radke – Board Member
Edwin is a Chartered Accountant and operates an accounting practice in the City of Edmonton. He has a Bachelor’s of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta.   Edwin sits on the Board of one other local non-profit organization and, as a new father, is committed to supporting young parents.

 Jennifer Jennax – Board Member
Jennifer is a Certified Management Consultant and currently works for the City of St. Albert as the Manager of Corporate Planning. She has an MBA and a Bachelor of Science with Specialization in Mathematics from the University of Alberta. Jennifer is Past President of the Institute of Certified Management Consultants of Alberta. She graduated from a high school for teen mothers in Ontario in 1989. Jennifer strongly believes that with a little support and guidance young mothers can become very successful. She joined the Terra Board to help contribute to the success of young parents.

Jim Klingle – Board Member
Jim Klingle is a Partner in Emerging Directions Consulting Ltd., an 11 year old Alberta-based incorporated firm providing planning, research, and evaluation services to nonprofit and government organizations. He has previously served as a board member with Terra, Connect Society, the Edmonton Community Loan Fund, and Boyle McCauley Health Centre. Jim holds a Master’s Degree in European Studies and a Bachelor’s Degree In History and English from the University of Alberta. He has been a Board member with Terra since 2008.
